APARTMENT IN BRUSSELS

Just a couple of weeks ago, Pantone announced the colour of the year for 2012 “tangerine tango” and this apartment seems to celebrate its minimalism along with the perfect synchronicity. Located in Brussels this four storey building is the atelier – shop – house – workshop of the fashion designer Johanne Riis

The idea behind the entire renovation is “Japanese Zen”, the realization of the concept is filtered through the lenses of “sensitivity and flexibility” and all these aspects are present in every corner of the house. And that is exactly what I love about this apartment. Dominant white alongside discreet hints of colour. Structure beams, old wooden floor, bdrick walls, all were left exposed in reminiscence of the building’s age. Nothing looks permanent in this house but nothing seems uneasy at the same time; furnishing on wheels so that can be easily rearranged, panels used as room dividers and paintings on the floor that eliminate the need of hangers. The only permanent wall interventions are the three PASTOE boxes in the kitchen. And last but not least, the old industrial, painted-black staircase. Isn’t it a major attraction?
