Recently it was restored and transformed into 8 small apartments. Brilliant use of space, light colours and sun light coming through the roof windows result in much bigger looking spaces. Just underneath the alpine slopes, <a href="http://www.search.nl/" target="_blank">SeARCH</a> and <a href="http://www.christian-muller.com/" target="_blank">CMA</a> designed this innovative villa.<span style="font-family: inherit;"> <a href="http://www.villavals.ch/" target="_blank">Villa Vals</a><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px; text-align: left;"> is approximately 160 m</span><sup style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px; text-align: left;">2</sup><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px; text-align: left;"> in size and completely dug out of the mountainside. It is located directly next to the famous Therme Vals, designed by Peter Zumthor and it offers room for ten people. A big glass façade opens out onto the terrace (60 m</span><sup style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px; text-align: left;">2</sup><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px; text-align: left;">) and offers spectacular views on green alp meadows, snow-coverd hil<span style="font-family: inherit;">lsides and mountaintops. A spring of crystal-clear &#39;Valserwasser&#39; originates on the terrace. The house consists of six rooms and a plot of 1.300 m</span></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"><sup style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px; text-align: left;">2</sup><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px; text-align: left;"> of private land. The living room, open kitchen and library annex bedroom with private bathroom are all situated overlooking the terrace whereas on the first floor there are three spacious bedrooms. </span></span></span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The house is energy efficient and uses no fossil fuel. It is heated and ventilated by green energy from a nearby situated dam. A rooftop panoramic swimming pool by the Belgian architecture firm <a href="http://www.dmva-architecten.be/">dmva-architecten</a>! And there is also a really interesting story behind this project. While the contractors were about to start the works, the uninhabited school building, adjoining his garden, was offered for sale. The principal did not hesitate, works were stopped and the school building was bought. Everything I want in one house. Beautiful use of contrast between the black exterior and the light interior. All the electricity is provided by the sun while the excellent insulation results in a carbon neutral building. The <a href="http://waterhouseshanghai.com/" target="_blank">Waterhouse</a> is located in Shanghai, close to<span style="font-family: inherit;"> the </span><span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="line-height: 21px;">Huangpu River and from its roof one can have an unlimited view of the city. Apart from being </span></span></span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px;">undoubtedly impressive and </span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: inherit;"><span style="line-height: 21px;">really well designed </span></span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 21px;">what I admire the most is the excellent mix of materials, textures and colours. The corten steel facade, the original concrete structure, the glass surfaces and the white, minimal volume of the additional building. And I have always wanted to post something about his work.Once, I had the chance to attend one of his lectures organized by the Hellenic Institute of Architecture and I was lucky enough to meet him in person and be amazed by his personality and his talent as a lecturer as much as I am inspired by his work. Unfortunately he doesn&#39;t have a personal website, he doesn&#39;t give interviews, nor does he easily agree for his work to be published on the web. Therefore, it was quite difficult for me to find any image regarding his work. The only project available is the awarded one, the &quot;Residence in N.Psychico&quot;. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Just as amazing as the rest of his work, this two-storey family house is located in Athens, in an area not that far from the city center. The attention to detail is visible in every little corner of this project. Beautiful concrete structure and a brilliant first floor patio that protects the bedrooms from the adjacent house while allowing the southern sun to enter the residence. The architect <b>Stella Konstantinidi</b> and the architecture practice <b>ASKarchitects</b> approached the project with the appropriate sensitivity to its historic values. As a result, traditional tiling, exposed beams and neoclassical plaster framing coexist with mid century furnishing, inox details and a total white minimal kitchen.
